WELCOME TO THE TUNNEL INN

2012 SCHEDULE

Winter Weekend Specials are available for March 2nd- 4th and the 16th-17th, 2012.

Two people for two nights is only $200.00 + tax.

Starting April 4th we will be open every Wednesday to Sunday, and every day from May 1st to November 17th.

Many of our guests have expressed a desire to bring their grandchildren or children to the Inn and enjoy the trains and railroad sights in the Altoona area.

Starting with the week of June 11th to 15th, June 25th to 29th; July 9th to 13th and 16th to 20th; and every Monday and Tuesday in August we will be glad to host children under 10 accompanied by an adult.  We will require a two night stay (Mon-Tues or Wed - Thur), which will give the youngsters plenty of train watching, as well as time to see the Horseshoe Curve and the Altoona Railroaders Museum.

Please call the Inn if you have specific questions about any of the above dates at (814) 884 - 2975

Standard rates are $130 + tax per night on weekends for two people, and $85 + tax for single occupancy. Weekend reservations require a two night stay. During the week from Monday to Thursday guests can enjoy a two night stay for $225 + tax for a savings of over $35.00, or buy enough gas to allow most folks to travel over 200 miles.

There is an additional charge for more than two guests in a room, as well as in AR Tower, our largest room.

If you have any questions, please call the Inn or use the link at the top of our website to send us an e-mail, and we will respond promptly.

Whether you're planning a trip to Aloona and the Horseshoe Curve, the East Broad Top or Western Maryland Scenic Railroads, or just passing thru on your way to a Penn State game, we would like to extend a warm welcome, and encourage you to pay us a visit.

Rail traffic remains brisk with coal and intermodal traffic very strong. The increase in traffic has also put more foreign power on the line, with BNSF and UP power showing up regularly.

Reservations will require a deposit, which will be applied to your bill at check-out. Payment at that time may be made in cash or with a check, since we do not accept credit cards.

When you stay at the Tunnel Inn train watching doesn't stop when the sun goes down, as our new and brighter floodlights highlight the mainline action. Our deck roof makes sure that guests stay dry, while the chiminea keeps our guests warm, along with complimentary hot chocolate, tea or coffee.

CANCELLATION POLICY: More than 14 days prior to your stay there is no charge. Within 14 days of your stay, a charge for one night will be assessed.

The Inns' railroad motiff is highlighted by country quilts and shaker furniture. Occupancy is limited to two people per room except for our first floor suite, AR Tower, which can accomodate up to four people, has no stairs and is HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE.

All suites have private baths, cable TV & refrigerators, and high speed wireless internet access. The Inn is non-smoking and air-conditioning in each room is individually controlled.

Children must be over the age of ten (10).

Traffic remains heavy from Thursday through Monday noon, with significant trailer, intermodal and coal train movements; empty hoppers going west and loads headed east. Most coal trains have two or three road units on the point, and one or two sets of helpers on the rear. AMTRAK trains are down to two per day. There are daily meets at the tunnel, either east/west or two westbounds emerging from the tunnel. Recent motive power has included UP, BNSF, and various leased units.

We look forward to having you as our guest, and giving us an opportunity to exceed your expectations.

We regret that due to allergies we are unable to permit guests to bring their pets.

REMEMBER, WHEN YOU STAY AT THE TUNNEL INN,

ONLY THE ENGINEER IS CLOSER TO THE TRAIN!
